This objective shows my ability to use technology tools for instruction, student assessment, management, reporting purposes and communication with parents/guardians of students including, but not limited to, spreadsheets, web page development, digital video, the Internet, and email.
As an educator, I used many different technology tools for instruction. Integrating technology into the classroom requires giving feedback often along with interacting with the students. Effective technology integration also requires the instruction of basic computer skills. Technology is an effective instructional tool and students are usually really engaged in learning when technology is used during the lesson. I enjoyed using power points to introduce new material to my students, and I also used cds that would give information on a new topic in order to give my students a another source of learning a new topic. The Promethean Projection was a technology tool that I used in my class which allowed me to use more visualization for instruction that I would not have had the opportunity to show on just a chalk board. I noticed that my students were more engaged in lessons in which technology was used than others. I even had one of my students tell me that when technology was integrated into the lessons, it became more meaningful and fun for him. My students were responsible for using technology to show what they had learned from two different lessons that I taught them. Computer rules were discussed so students would know the dos and don’ts of using the computer and searching the internet for information.
I assessed my students’ use of technology by asking questions as they used the computer to create technology products. The questions that I asked pertained to basic computer skills such as how to turn on the computer and how to use a search engine to locate information. I would also walk around the computer area and watch as the students used to computers. One of the assignments that my students had to do involved using excel and following directions to create a coordinate plane. I noted who was able to use excel without any difficulty and those who struggled. I also provided help and feedback as the students worked.
Parents/guardians were informed of the many different forms of technology that was going to be used for instruction in the classroom. They were informed about the purposes of using power point, excel, and the |internet for instruction. The parents/guardians were also informed that communication about their children would sometimes come in the form of e-mail and that I would keep track of their children's grades by using a spreadsheet.
I used rubrics as an evaluation tool for the student created technology products. One technology product was an individual and the other was collaborative. The rubrics entailed questions about each technology product that allowed me to see if the students were able to use technology to show what they learned from the lessons.
